HISTORY OF OUR FACILITIES
1961: Bishop George Ahr, bishop of the Trenton Diocese in New Jersey, founded a new parish in Cinnaminson, NJ and named it St. Charles Borromeo. Its first pastor was Rev. Francis McCusker. Since there was no church, the first masses were held at the Memorial School 1962: After a successful capital campaign, ground was broken for the new facility. It would be a “T” shaped building containing school classrooms, a dining room/auditorium, and a gymnasium that was planned to be used as a temporary church. 1963: The new building was completed and dedicated. 1964: The St. Charles Borromeo Parochial School opened. 1968: A barn was constructed on the property for a workshop and storage facilities. 1969: The first parish carnival was held 1972: A large tract of ground at the back of the property was sold to eliminate debt. 1973: Stained glass windows were added to the temporary church. 1981: Marsh Hall, a separate small building was added on the property to provide for additional meeting rooms. 1993: A “perpetual” Adoration Chapel was constructed out of a former storage space. 1995: A kindergarten building was constructed on the property.
HISTORY OF OUR PEOPLE
§ The first census of our parish showed 645 families. The latest census shows 2100 families. This number has held steady for a number of years. § We initially had 6 ministries, or organizations in the parish. We presently have about 70 ministries in our parish. Almost 600 parishioners fill over 1000 ministry positions. § In 1996 we began the process of collaborative ministry, or shared leadership of the parish between clergy and lay parishioners, as recommended by Vatican II. We formed groupings of the ministries. We called these groups of ministries Core Communities, of which there are five. We then formed a Pastoral Council, drawing from the five Core Communities.
